Frank Ketner Patterson 1935-2017

 

Frank Ketner Patterson, born May 2, 1935, met his Savior on February 3, 2017. He was 81.

Son of the late Robert H. and Louisa C. Patterson, he was a lifelong Cabarrus County resident.
Following his 1953 graduation from Winecoff High School, Frank served in the Army as a
mechanic in the Korean War. Upon returning home, he attended DeVry Institute and Automatic
Transmission School of Chicago while working for the Chicago Tribune. After completing his
education, Frank returned home where he owned and operated Patterson’s Hydramatic Shop,
where he retired after 55 years.
Frank’s mechanical expertise was evident in his work and hobbies; if he could dream it, he
could build it. He enjoyed restoring vintage cars and tractors, traveling with his family, and
serving the Lord at Branchview First Church of God. His friends and family regarded him as
hard-working, honest, loving, inventive, tender hearted, generous, and faithful. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Carl and Fred Patterson, sister Madge P. Rodgers; half-sister Evelyn C. Coe, of Marion, VA; and half-brother Ervin Cattron of North Manchester, IN.

Family will greet friends at Wilkinson Funeral Home, Sunday, February 5, from 5-7 pm.
Services, also at Wilkinson, will commence at 2:00pm the following day, Monday, February 6;
graveside service to follow at Mount Carmel Methodist Church Cemetery.

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara Sifford Patterson; his two sons Frank Wesley Patterson and Carl Douglas (Amy) Patterson; his daughter Alice Patterson (Dave Trozzi); three grandchildren Jacob Patterson, Sara Patterson, and Samantha (Justin) Schnettler of Harbor Beach, MI. He is also survived by his two sisters, Frances P. Canupp of Concord and Ann P. Tidwell of Carolina Beach, and a brother-in-law, Lewis Rodgers, of Kannapolis. Finally, Frank is survived by his two canine companions, Happy and Shasta.

Dorothy Anne Jacobs McCormick 1942-2022

 

Dorothy Anne Jacobs McCormick, 79, of Culpeper, VA died Friday, February 4, 2022 at Novant Health Systems UVA Culpeper Hospital. She was born March 30, 1942 in Madison, VA.

Dorothy is survived by her children; Tracy Skotis, Donna Essad, Vanessa Cooper, Paul Jenkins, Matthew Jenkins (Jessica), and Shayne McCormick, siblings; Jimmy Jacobs (Diane), Bea Wondree (Michael), Terry Jacobs (Rachel); sisters-in-law, Sharon Jacobs, Peggy Bauckman, Ruby Jacobs, and Pat Jaco; grandchildren, Emanuel Skotis (Veronica), Robert Skotis, J.C. Essad, Josh Essad, Chris McAllister, Ashleigh Cooper, Devin Cooper, Nadia Essad, Klarisa Flint, LeAnna Jenkins, Alaina Stapleton (Andrew), Ashley Smith, Matthew Jenkins, Carmela McCormick, Harley Hatcher (Shawn), and Bruce Casto, as well as 20 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Forrest McCormick, daughter, Paula McAllister, siblings; Jackie Jacobs, Tommy Jacobs, Fred Jacobs, Jeanie Paul, and Bobby Bauckman, grandchildren; Markie McAllister, Leeland Jenkins, Leah Jenkins, and Isabel Essad.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 10:00 am at Culpeper National Cemetery (Old Section), 305 US Avenue, Culpeper, VA 22701 with Pastor Mark Cook officiating.

Lauren Baker Crossland 1965-2024 Obituary

Lauren Baker Crossland, a devoted wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the age of 59. She was born, on August 17, 1965 to Walter and Rachel Baker, in Gaston, NC.

Lauren was the devoted wife of Jem Crossland, with whom she shared 25 wonderful years of marriage. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Cheryl "Bunny" Robins, and her husband Dave; as well as her brothers, Stan Baker and his wife Connie, and Charlton "Chip" Baker. Her cherished nieces, Cheri Stringer and husband Chris and Juli Brocato and husband Andy will also remember Lauren fondly. 

Throughout her life, Lauren was known for her adventurous spirit. She loved music, traveling, and being out in nature. Whether she was under a parasol at the beach, exploring the mountains, traveling out west to see friends, or to attend music festivals; she found joy being in the moment and reminiscing adventures gone by. She loved riding on the back of her husband's motorcycles. Lauren and Jem often took to the open road, embracing the thrill of the ride.  

Lauren loved music. She found inspiration in various genres, but especially loved rockabilly and old country music.  She was supportive of her husband's rockabilly band, Jem Crossland & the Hypertonics at venues from NC to AZ.  Lauren was even known to get up on stage with Jem occasionally to sing her go to favorite, "There He Goes" by Loretta Lynn.

Lauren offered housekeeping services for most of her working life. When she wasn't cleaning the homes of her clients, she enjoyed maintaining and updating the Baker family home, that she and Jem bought after Mr Baker died in 2017.  She enjoyed cooking holiday meals for her family after Mrs Baker died in 2004.  She was always happy to prepare a side dish when getting together with her longtime friend Tammy Gordon Holt for a summer pool party. She would thoughtfully prepare snacks for friends that might join her and Jem on road trips.  Most of all she loved preparing meals that she shared with her husband Jem.

Lauren was very tender hearted to animals.  Whether it be a stray cat or dog, a wild creature showing up at her doorstep, or a crab zigzagging its way across the beach - she wanted them to be safe and not mistreated.  Her two beloved cats, Engine and Tiger will miss her immensely.  

Lauren was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Baker and Rachel Brackett, as well as her and Jem's favorite dog, Blitz.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Mt. Holly.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
