Richard Alan Raynor, 30, of 279 Cabarrus Ave East, Concord, NC , died at 2:40pm Sunday , February 7, 1993.  He had been diagnosed with a heart condition three years prior.  He was with family and church friends when his sudden death occurred.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm Tuesday at Hartsell Funeral Home  and at the home prior to the visitation.
Born December 5, 1962, in Charlottesville, VA, Alan was the son of the late Richard Russell Raynor and the late Betty Ann Beahm Raynor

He moved from Gordonsville, VA to Concord, NC in 1983.   He was a Maintenance Mechanic with the City of Concord Housing Authority.  He was a member of Branchview First Church of God.

Alan took his roll in life seriously: son, brother, husband, father, friend, employee and neighbor. He worked with the same strong ethic as his father had modeled. Alan was humble with a dry sense of humor. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars and giving of his time to help others. He was intellectually gifted. He loved to read as a boy and young teen. He had aspirations of becoming a teacher but in his late teens he got caught up with the "wrong crowd" and his path went in a different direction.  He rededicated his life to God in his twenties and lived an exemplary Christian faith.
Survivors include his daughter, Laura Anne Raynor of the home; three brothers Timothy W. Raynor of Orange, VA, and Kenneth W. Raynor (Dottie), Brian K. Raynor of Concord, NC, and a sister Sandra Raynor Furr  (Wayne) of Kannapolis, NC;  nieces & nephews Autumn Furr, Cassandra, Aaron, Jared, Wesley and Daniel Raynor. He is also survived by former in-laws Brenda and Walter Safrit (father of Alan's ex-wife, Beverly Safrit Raynor).  Close friends Lisa Crisco, Melonie Foley, Marci Kindley, Doug Patterson, Scott Mills, and  Larry Widenhouse and many others mourn this loss.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of Alan’s church: Branchview First Church of God PO Box 1077, Concord, NC 28026.

William H. Shomo 1823 - 1909 obituary

William H. Shomo

At half past 2 o’clock on last Sunday afternoon, February 21, 1909 Mr. William H. Shomo departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Isaac Price on the James Spitzer farm, three miles northeast of New Market, Va.; aged 86 yrs. 9 mths. and 10 days. As recorded in the Valley at the time, about five weeks ago, Mr. Shomo accidentally slipped, fell and broke his left thigh-bone and dislocated his hip which injuries no doubt hastened his death. His remains were conveyed Tuesday to Newport, Page County and interred in the graveyard, Rev. Edward French officiating in the Christian Church. The following persons accompanied the remains: Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Price, three sons and one daughter; and Mrs. Anna Breedlove of Fishersville, Va. In addition to his daughters Mrs. Price and Mrs. Breedlove , the following of his other children also attended the funeral; Mr. Samuel Shomo, Mrs, Nannie Bluehart, and Mrs. Minnie Alger of Newport, Va. And Mrs. Rebecca Propst of Shenandoah, Va. Distance prevented his other children from attending the funeral, namely, Mrs. Sarah Fox of Arkansas; Mrs. Catherine Gaines of Altoona, Pa.; and Mr. John Wm. Shomo of Low Moor, Va.
The deceased was the son of Mr. Daniel & Dianna Reamer Shomo, and was born and reared in New Market, Va. When quite a young man he removed to Newport, Page County, Va. Where he carried on blacksmithing for sixty-three years. He married Miss Frances Louderback, soon after locating in that section. He was a member of the Christian Church, an industrious and useful citizen whose death will be mourned by a large number of relatives, friends and acquaintances.
Mr. Shomo spent the last seven years of his life in this locality, having moved into our midst several years after his wife Frances' death.
