Lucille Raynor Smith, beloved momma, granny, aunt, and friend was finally able to make her joyous journey at age 93 to be with our Lord and Savior and her beloved husband, Leonard Franklin Smith, whom she had longed for since December of 2014. Lucille was born December 10, 1931, in Albemarle County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Russell David and Margaret Collier Raynor. She is preceded in death by seven of her eight siblings (infant sister) Minnie Pearl, her sisters Helen Shoemaker and her husband, Bill (Orange, VA), Esther Beahm and her husband Thomas (Madison, VA), her brothers Richard Raynor and his wife Betty (Gordonsville, VA), David Raynor and his wife, Mary (Orange, VA), Albert Raynor (Orange VA), and James Raynor (Orange, VA) and a brother-in-law Leiut Taylor (Stanardsville, VA). One niece, Sandra Raynor Furr and nephew Richard Alan Raynor of North Carolina both preceded her in death as well.
Lucille is survived by her children, Donna Farrar and her husband James, her son Timothy Raynor (all of Orange, VA) and three grandchildren Jason Farrar (Ruckersville, VA), Lily McSorley (Orange, VA) and Kayli Raynor (Orange, VA). Lucille is also survived by her dear sister Dorothy Taylor of
Stanardsville, VA, her brother in law John Dyer of Orange, VA, and a multitude of beloved nieces and nephews scattered near and far but always held deep in her heart.
Lucille was a loving wife and the most sweet and generous momma and granny that any children could ask for. She knew how to play and have fun. She always wanted the best for her babies and would move mountains to make their dreams come true. Lucille raised her children in faith and taught them to love all people, the sinners and the saints, and that all people are deserving of love in God’s eyes. Lucille adored her nieces and nephews and endeavored to make sure they knew how much she loved them. She was a long standing member of Orange Community Baptist Church, and she held her church family in fine affection and deep respect.
Lucille was a wonderful cook and no one ever left her house hungry. She was a hard worker, spending years working in factories across Orange County until retiring at age 71. Her house was always open to family, friends and strangers. She gave generously without question to those in need without an ounce of suspicion and always a heart full of love and hope.
Lucille loved animals and is preceded in death by her beloved pug, Mika Jean. In her years of retirement, she gave love to the many strays and fosters that crossed the threshold. She is survived by her pug Charlotte Ann, with whom she snuggled with everyday. While Charlotte was her favorite, Lucille made it her goal to give equal time to Pepper, Anya, Dio, Tyrone, Ziggy, Spike, Blossom, Milky Cat and the birds( Sam and Dean). She deeply missed her sweet Lola, who recently passed, and was awaiting a new baby bunny. Lucille’s heart was always full of love and the need to make sure those around her felt loved.
For Lucille, our sweet momma, her life philosophy was God first, then family and then everyone. No one was left unloved if she was in your life.
A celebration of life will be held at Orange Community Baptist Church 14233 Little Zion Road, Orange, Virginia 22960 on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at 2:00 pm. Preddy’s Funeral Home in Orange is assisting with arrangements.
