Retta Nicholson Thorpe Simpson, 84, of Front Royal, died Monday, March 25, 2013 in the Warren Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 29, at 2:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Simpson was born April 15, 1928 in Nethers Mill, Virginia, daughter of late Andrew P. and Lou B. Corbin Nicholson. She retired from Aileen, Inc.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John H. Thorpe.

Surviving are her husband, William "Bill" Simpson; two daughters, Betty A. Jenkins of Front Royal and Kathy L. Drain of Front Royal; two sons, David H. Thorpe of Front Royal and Johnie L. Thorpe of Stanley; one brother, James Nicholson of Manassas; one sister, Mary Frances Swithenbank of Linden; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by six sisters, Alice J. Perdue, Louise Dressler, Eunice Taylor, Mildred Nicholson, Reva Nicholson and Ethal Nicholson; and two brothers, Andrew Warren Nicholson and Ernest Edward Nicholson.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jason Thorpe, Joshua Jenkins, Amos Jenkins, Denver Drain and Christopher Drain.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

American Country Music Singer: EASTON CORBIN

Easton Corbin (born April 12, 1982) is an American country music singer. He signed to Mercury Records Nashville in 2009 and released his self-titled debut album in March 2010, featuring the two Number One hits "A Little More Country Than That" and "Roll With It", as well as the top 15 hit "I Can't Love You Back". Corbin's second album, All Over the Road, was released on September 18, 2012. Its first single, "Lovin' You Is Fun", was released in February. The album's second single, "All Over the Road", was released in January 2013.
Easton Corbin is a native of Gilchrist County, Florida. He lived on his grandparents' farm following his parents' divorce, and was introduced to country music-themed television programs such as Hee Haw. After taking guitar lessons from session musician Pee Wee Melton at age fourteen, Corbin joined a band, which won an opening slot at a music festival, followed by opening slots for Janie Fricke and Mel McDaniel.
Corbin later attended the University of Florida's College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and earned an agribusiness degree, before marrying his wife, Briann, on September 2, 2006. He and Briann then moved to Nashville, Tennessee, on October 14, 2006,^[3] where he worked at an Ace Hardware store and performed at writers' nights. A distant cousin, who is a professor of entertainment management, recommended Corbin to contacts in Nashville, Tennessee.^[4]

Chasity Marie "Sissy" Corbin, 27, died Saturday, June 11, 2011 along with her unborn child. Chasity was born on May 11, 1984 in Culpeper to John Leon and Brenda Ann Nicholson Pack.

Chasity enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her family. She liked turtles and racing 4-wheelers with her husband.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Kenneth William Corbin, two children, Breanna Marie Pack and Trevor William Corbin, all of Culpeper, one brother, Chris Pack and his wife, Jessica and their children, Evan, Hayden and Hunter, all of Madison, and her maternal grandparents, Marie and Milton Nicholson of Culpeper.

Additional survivors include her mother and father-in-law, Frances May and Bernard Lee Hawkins of Culpeper, her grandfather-in-law, Charles Stanley, two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Albert Stanley, Jr. and his wife, Rebecca of Reva, Gerry Corbin and his wife, Debbie of Unionville, one sister-in-law, Sherri Frazier and her husband, Tommy of Leon, and a host of uncles, aunts, and extended family.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Wright officiating.

Interment will follow in Etlan Cemetery.

Florine Nicholson, 89, of Culpeper, VA, formerly of Front Royal, died on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Culpeper Health and Rehab.


A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery conducted by Lt. Pradeep Ramaji.


Ms. Nicholson was born August 19, 1922 in Madison County, daughter of the late Odie and Elizabeth Corbin Nicholson.


Surviving are one daughter Marie Sizemore and husband Skip of Culpeper; one son Earl Nicholson of Madison Heights, VA; one sister Dorothy Lilly of Front Royal; and one brother Woodrow Nicholson of Culpeper. She was preceded in death by a son Leon Nicholson; and eight brothers and sisters.

Margaret Cochran Corbin 11/12/1751 – 1/16/1800

 Margaret Cochran was born in West Pennsylvania on November 12, 1751 in what is now Franklin County. Her parents were Robert Cochran, a Scots-Irish immigrant, and his wife, Sarah. In 1756, when Margaret was five years old, her parents were attacked by Native Americans. Her father was killed, and her mother was kidnapped, never to be seen again — Margaret and her brother, John, escaped the raid because they were not at home. Margaret lived with her uncle for the rest of her childhood.
In 1772, at the age of 21, Margaret married a Virginia farmer named John Corbin.
Margaret and John Corbin, along with some 600 American soldiers, were defended Fort Washington in northern Manhattan from 4,000 attacking Hessian troops under British command. John and Margaret crewed one of two cannons the defenders possessed. When her husband fell, Margaret took his place at his cannon and continued firing until she, herself, was seriously wounded. She later became the first woman in U.S. history to receive a pension from Congress for military service.  She was the first female soldier buried at West Point cemetery.

. James Clyde " J.C. "Corbin, Sr., 89, of Orange, VA, passed away in Amerisist of Orange, Monday, June 7, 2010. Mr. Corbin was born in Rappahannock County, VA, to Clyde Andrew Corbin and Maggie Jane Nicholson Corbin, October 8, 1920; worked as coal stripper in West Virginia and Kentucky with his own company, J.C. Corbin Coal and Excavating Company, where he was proud to reclaim the mined grounds, leaving them better than before the mining operation.

Surviving Mr. Corbin are his children, James C. Corbin, Jr. and his wife Matilda of Orange, VA, Eugene F. Corbin and his wife Joan of Culpeper, VA and Larry L. Corbin of Culpeper, VA; his 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren; his siblings, Irving Corbin of Spotsylvania, VA, Lucy King of Hyattsville, MD, Ms. Mary Corbin of Ladysmith, VA and Roberta Menter of AK; his very special sister-in-law, Thelma Corbin of Culpeper, VA and a number of nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents; his siblings, Charles, Raymond, Hugh, Robert, Franklin, William and Bernard Corbin, and Virginia Embrey.

The family would like to thank Gail and Arold Smith for the loving care they have given Mr. Corbin during his residence in Amerisist.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Clore-English Funeral Home, Friday, June 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Mason Hutcheson conducting the service. Hysel Nicholson, Sr. 1934-2011

 Hysel Nicholson, Sr., age 77, of Stanardsville died Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Evergreen Nursing Home. He was born January 2, 1934 in Madison County to the late Albert and Mamie Corbin Nicholson.

Mr. Nicholson loved to play guitar and was an excellent story teller at heart. He cherished his time spent with his family and had many loving friends at Evergreen Manor House.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Nicholson; nine children, Robin Morris and her husband, Ray, Henry Cox and his wife, Birgit, Hysel Nicholson, Jr. and his wife, Elaine, Joe Nicholson, Irene Cooper and her husband, Kenneth, Adam Nicholson, Mary Hapke and her husband, Tommy, Elizabeth Yarborough and her husband, Emmanuel and Barbara Starr and her husband, Chad; one sister, Virginia "Peggy" Nicholson, his wife's son, Bobby Clickner, and numerous grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Adam Nicholson and one sister, Beulah Clore.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. at New Life Baptist Church, 12302 Alum Springs Rd., Culpeper, Va. with Pastor Rick Simpson officiating. A one hour visitation will be held prior to the service.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Evelyn Marie Corbin Minnick 1927-2011

Mrs. Evelyn Marie Corbin Minnick, 83, a resident of McGaheysville, passed away Saturday evening, March 19, 2011 at her home.

A daughter of the late Abraham and Edith Bowman Corbin, she was born on June 26, 1927 in Broadway, Virginia.

She attended Rockingham County schools and had been employed at Metro Pants in Harrisonburg, for 22 years before retiring.

On May 18, 1943 she married Warren H. Minnick, Sr., who survives. Also surviving are four sons, David Minnick, of Harrisonburg; Warren Minnick, Jr., of McGaheysville; Gary Minnick, of Timberville; Franklin Minnick, of Broadway; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and seven sisters, Charlotte Baker, Cora Anderson, Shirley Knupp, Ruby Fultz, all of
Harrisonburg; Phyllis Hamaday, of Troper, PA; Anna Sherman and Betty Arehart, both of Timberville.

All services will be private.

Jessie Pearl Corbin, age 88, of Madison died Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Autumn Care of Madison. She was born July 1, 1922 in Madison to the late John and Fannie Dodson Nicholson.

Mrs. Corbin was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Anna Deavers and her husband, Edward of Front Royal, Edward Corbin of Culpeper, Linwood Corbin and his wife, Renee of Elkwood, Johnny Corbin and his wife, Connie of Culpeper and Danny Corbin and his wife, Tracy of Madison, one sister, Essie Mae Nicholson, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

James Russell Corbin 1951-2008

James Russell Corbin, 56, of Culpeper died on Friday, May 16, 2008, at his residence. He was born on June 13, 1951, in Fauquier County, Va., to Thelma Bennett Corbin and the late Robert Lee Corbin.

Mr. Corbin was a member of Thoroughfare Bible Church. He had a passion for hunting and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 34 years, Brenda Lee Corbin; two children, James "Tony" Corbin and his wife, Deborah, of Rixeyville, and Lori Hitt and her husband, Daniel, of Castleton; and four grandchildren, Devyn, Dalton and Kaylee Hitt, and Shelby Corbin.

Additional survivors include his siblings, Lee Corbin Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Fayetteville, N.C., Wayne Corbin and his wife, Regina, of Lignum, Terry Corbin and his wife, Tena, of Fauquier, Patty Barfield and her husband, Charles, of Culpeper, and Dennis Corbin of Reva; and also one sister-in-law, Janet Corbin of Reva.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Corbin and Jerry "Tibbs" Corbin, and a nephew, Danny "Cricket" Corbin.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper VA 22701.

Milton Edward Beahm 1920-2011

MILTON EDWARD BEAHM

August 7, 1920 – July 18, 2011

On Monday, July 18, 2011, Milton Edward Beahm of Hyattsville, MD, departed this life to be with the Lord.  He was the husband of the late Aline Constance McCoy Beahm. He is survived by his son, Thomas Lee and daughter, Belinda Ruth and two grandsons. Milton was the 5^th of 20 children.  His surviving siblings are Mary Ellen Beahm Spicer and husband Jack of Fairless Hills, PA; Sarah Jane Beahm Thomas and husband, Bernie of Rochelle, VA; Rev. Charles E. Beahm and wife, Ethel May also of Rochelle, VA; Mabel Beahm Clore and husband, Raymond of Brightwood, VA;  Gladys Beahm Nicholson and husband Bill of Brightwood, VA; and Thomas Beahm and his wife, Esther of Oak Park, VA.  There are numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him greatly.

Milton was born in Madison, VA, August 7, 1920, to the late John William and Rosa Lee Corbin Beahm.  He worked as a young boy for Randy Tucker and the Basil Families locally, then moved to Maryland and worked at various jobs with his brothers until enlisting in  the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in WWII, through July 20, 1945, in the 92^nd Chemical Mortar Battalion in Normandy, Rhineland, and Northern France.  He received a Purple Heart for injuries received while in action in Germany, a Good Conduct Medal and a European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars.  After receiving an Honorable Discharge dated September 17, 1945, Milton was employed as a carpenter by Frank Rubino, owner of a local construction company where he remained for 40 years until he “retired”.  He continued to work for Mr. Rubino until his health declined.

Milton and his family attended Calvary Memorial Baptist Church in Hyattsville, MD until health issues put his wife in a nursing home, where he faithfully cared for her and his children who are now both in special care facilities.

Milton enjoyed his RV Camper and loved to talk to people by CB and/or Ham Radio up on the Skyline Drive
where he could reach almost anyone!       
                            

His Cowboy Hats and Western clothes were his favorite outfit when he went out and his guitar was a favorite past time at home.  Milton was a kind and caring brother, husband, father and friend.  We will all miss him and the Kentucky Fried Chicken he always brought to the family reunions!  He enjoyed taking videos at many of our family gatherings.

Funeral services were held for Milton at the BORGWARDT Funeral Home in Beltsville, MD, with his brother Rev. Charles Beahm officiating.  A message titled “What Will You Do With Your “Dash”?  was given to the many friends and family gathered for his Memorial Service.    Interment with Military Honors was held at the Fort Lincoln Cemetery near Washington, D.C.

Charles Corbin, 84, of Brightwood died on Monday, May 31, 2010, in Culpeper.

He was born on August 30, 1925, in Madison County, the son of the late Charles Washington Corbin and Fannie Nicholson Corbin and husband of the late Lillie Virginia Corbin.

Mr. Corbin is survived by two sons, Elzie Lee Corbin of Stanley and Charles M. Corbin of Brightwood; a stepson, Junior Douglas Corbin of Culpeper; a niece, Tammy Dodson of Brightwood and two step grandchildren, Jerry Corbin and Sherri Frazier.

A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2010, at Bethsaide United Methodist Church Cemetery in Brightwood conducted by the Reverend John K. Burke.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison.

Lillie Virginia Corbin, age 79, of Culpeper, Virginia, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2007 at Oak Springs Nursing Home, Warrenton, Virginia. Lillie was born in Culpeper County, June 9, 1928 to Wesley and Adeline Corbin Corbin. Surviving Lillie are her husband Charles W. CLAUDE WESLEY BEAHM passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011.  He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Margaret Ellen Beahm; father of Beverly Long (Dan), Bonnie Pribble, Brenda Carpineta (Gary), Bernice Burroughs (Mark), David Beahm and the late Barbara Hinton; brother of Milton Beahm, Mary Ellen Spicer, Sarah Jane Thomas, Charles E. Beahm, Mable Clore, Gladys Nicholson and Tommy Beahm. Also survived by nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one on the way.  He was the son of the late John William Beahm and Rosa Lee Corbin Beahm.   He was also proceded in death by twelve other siblings.

The name “Corbin”, derives from the Norman French word, “Corbeau”, a raven, a black bird. Originally the France of today was known as Gallia (Gaul), but the Romans under Caesar conquered it and through the years it's Latin element necessarily became pronounced; then later it was overrun by the Vikings, northern Europeans, and hence called Northmen or Normans, and a part of the Gallic land became Normandy.

The first mention of a name similar to Corbin that I have found thus far is Saint Corbinian, who was born 670 in Chatres, France near Melun, in Frankish territory and died 730 in Freising, Germany. Corbinian was born, Waldegiso. However his mother, Corbiniana renamed him Corbinian shortly after the death of his father. He erected a Benedictine monastery and a school on a mountain near Freising. I have not made a correlation though, between Saint Corbinian, born in 670 and Robert Corbin, born in 1060.

We are descendants of Robert Corbyn, who established Corbyn Hall, in Staffordshire, England around 1080. Robert's great-grandson, gave lands to the Abbey of Talesworth, between 1154-1161, in the reign of Henry II, of England. The Corbyn family lived in Staffordshire until around 1452. They then moved to Hall End, County Of Warwick, Polesworth, England, and lived there until 1652, when Thomas and son, John came to the Virginia Colony in 1652, on the ship "Peter" of London. The Corbyn name was changed to Corbin to differentiate between the European and American families upon arriving at the Virginia Colony.

Henry Corbin was the first Corbin who came to the Virginia Colony which was in 1650. The name of Corbin has been associated with the history of Virginia since the Colonial days, when they contributed services to their country as early as 1657.

There are many different versions of the Corbin coat of arms. However, the description and two arms below appears to be the most accurate for our lineage that I have found.

The Corbins who moved to Warwickshire changed the colors on their coat of arms to blue and eliminated the crest. This is according to the Warwickshire County Record Office in Enland. The arms below represents our family branch.

The Corbin Family is an old Virginia family, but the story begins in England, in Of Annington, with Thomas Corbin who was born in 1517. His ancestors may be traced to the Norman conquest of England in 1066. His descendant, a Henry Corbin, was born in Of, Hall End, Warwiskshire, England in 1629. He came to Virginia Colony on the ship Charity and settled in Stratton Major, King & Queen Co. (so named for his home in Enland). He served in the House of Burgesses in 1657, 59 and 60. The Corbins built the estate Peckatom, featuring a Georgian Mansion that sat on the shore of the Patomac. In 1645 he married Alice Eltonhead in Lancaster County, Virginia. They had the following childern: Laetitia, 1657; Winifred, 1662; Anne, 1664; John, 1657; Gawin, 1659; and Thomas, 1669. Henry Corbin was one of the most powerful persons in the colony. He had been in the "Country Club" that John Lee had established.

Laetitia (called Lettice by her family) married the landowner next door: Sir Richard Lee, and their descendants included General Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee, a Revolutinary officer, and General Robert E. Lee of the Mexican and Civil Wars. His son Colonel Gawin Corbin served as Burgess in 1700, 02, and 18. Henry died in Westmoreland County in 1675, and Gawin inherited Peckatom.

Margaret Beahm Donald 9/18/1918 - 5/5/11

Margaret Beahm Donald was born September 18, 1918 to John William Beahm & Rosa Lee Corbin Beahm.

Margaret Beahm Donald, 92, of Spotsylvania County, went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 05, 2011 at Mary Washington Hospital.

Margaret was a long standing member of the Temple Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning and all homemaker activities.

Margaret was a devoted mother to her eight children; four daughters; Virginia Altman and her husband Roy of Spotsylvania, Joan Garland and her husband Robert of Falmouth, Kathleen Donald of Fredericksburg and June Savee and her husband Clifford of Madison, Virginia; four sons, Dwight Donald and his wife Robin of St. Mary’s Georgia, Michael Donald and his wife Kaye of Spotsylvania, Arnold Donald of Beaumont, TX and Christopher Donald and his wife Trina of Caroline County; 24 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great grandchildren and eight brothers and sisters.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Ross Donald.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday, May 9 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Rd., Fredericksburg. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10th at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Mike Reid officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
