Lauren Baker Crossland 1965-2024 Obituary

Lauren Baker Crossland, a devoted wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the age of 59. She was born, on August 17, 1965 to Walter and Rachel Baker, in Gaston, NC.

Lauren was the devoted wife of Jem Crossland, with whom she shared 25 wonderful years of marriage. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Cheryl "Bunny" Robins, and her husband Dave; as well as her brothers, Stan Baker and his wife Connie, and Charlton "Chip" Baker. Her cherished nieces, Cheri Stringer and husband Chris and Juli Brocato and husband Andy will also remember Lauren fondly. 

Throughout her life, Lauren was known for her adventurous spirit. She loved music, traveling, and being out in nature. Whether she was under a parasol at the beach, exploring the mountains, traveling out west to see friends, or to attend music festivals; she found joy being in the moment and reminiscing adventures gone by. She loved riding on the back of her husband's motorcycles. Lauren and Jem often took to the open road, embracing the thrill of the ride.  

Lauren loved music. She found inspiration in various genres, but especially loved rockabilly and old country music.  She was supportive of her husband's rockabilly band, Jem Crossland & the Hypertonics at venues from NC to AZ.  Lauren was even known to get up on stage with Jem occasionally to sing her go to favorite, "There He Goes" by Loretta Lynn.

Lauren offered housekeeping services for most of her working life. When she wasn't cleaning the homes of her clients, she enjoyed maintaining and updating the Baker family home, that she and Jem bought after Mr Baker died in 2017.  She enjoyed cooking holiday meals for her family after Mrs Baker died in 2004.  She was always happy to prepare a side dish when getting together with her longtime friend Tammy Gordon Holt for a summer pool party. She would thoughtfully prepare snacks for friends that might join her and Jem on road trips.  Most of all she loved preparing meals that she shared with her husband Jem.

Lauren was very tender hearted to animals.  Whether it be a stray cat or dog, a wild creature showing up at her doorstep, or a crab zigzagging its way across the beach - she wanted them to be safe and not mistreated.  Her two beloved cats, Engine and Tiger will miss her immensely.  

Lauren was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Baker and Rachel Brackett, as well as her and Jem's favorite dog, Blitz.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Mt. Holly.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Helen Marie Raynor Shoemaker

 Helen Raynor Shoemaker, 79, of Orange, VA, passed away peacefully in the presence of her children on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Dogwood Village of Orange. She was born on May 13, 1943, in Albemarle County, to the late, Russell and Margaret Raynor.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Thomas (Glenn) of Orange, VA; her son, David Dyer (Donna Lou) of Oak Park, VA; her stepson, Matthew Shoemaker (Elania) of NOVA; her brother, Albert Raynor of Orange, VA; her sisters, Lucille Smith of Orange, VA, and Dorothy Taylor of Greene Co., VA; her sister-in-law, Mary Raynor; her three grandchildren, Colleen Dykstra (Clayton), Emily Lou Dyer, and DJ Dyer; two great-grandchildren, Knox Dyer, and Kove Dyer; her first husband & dear friend, John L. Dyer; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Crenshaw Shoemaker; her brothers, David Raynor, James Raynor, and Richard Raynor and his wife Betty; her sister, Esther Beahm and her husband Thomas; and brothers-in-law, Leonard Smith, and Lieut Taylor.

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Graham Cemetery with Pastor Wayne Carney officiating.

THOMAS ANDREW BEAHM 2/12/44-1/28/22

 Thomas Andrew Beahm, 77, of Madison County, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022, at UVA Medical Center. He was born on February 12, 1944 to the late John William Beahm and Lillie Pearl Nicholson Beahm. He was also preceded in death by sixteen sisters and brothers.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas Andrew Beahm Jr. and Eugene Michael Beahm; brother, Charles Beahm; sisters, Gladys B. Nicholson, Jane B. Thomas, and Mabel B. Clore and husband, Raymond Lee Clore; grandchildren, Custis, Joshua, and Caleb Beahm; great-grandchild, Leeanne Mae Beahm.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

ESTER MAE RAYNOR BEAHM 4/01/45-5/18/20

 Esther Mae Beahm, 75, of Culpeper, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020, at UVA Culpeper Hospital. She was born on April 1, 1945, to the late Russell David Raynor and Margaret Collier Raynor. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, James Raynor and Richard Raynor. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Andrew Beahm; two sons, Thomas Andrew Beahm, Jr. and Eugene Michael Beahm and wife Theresa; brothers, David Raynor and Albert Raynor; sisters, Lucille Smith, Dorothy Taylor, and Helen Shumaker; and grandchildren, Curtis, Joshua, and Caleb Beahm. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

FORREST ANDREW McCORMICK 12/14/49-10/22/19

 Forrest Andrew McCormick, 69, of Culpeper died Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at VCU Medical Center from complications of Agent Orange. He was born December 14, 1949 in Youngstown, OH to the late Fred and Faye Richards McCormick.

Mr. McCormick was a veteran of the US Army having served during Vietnam and was stationed in Korea.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dorothy; sons, Shayne McCormick, Paul Jenkins and Matthew Jenkins and his wife, Jessica; daughters, Tracy Skotis, Donna Essad and Vanessa Cooper; and 16 grandchildren, Carmela, Harley, Bruce, Klarisa, LeAnna, Alaina, Ashley, Matthew Thomas, Emanuel, Robert, J.C., Joshua, Chris, Ashleigh, Devin and Nadia. He is also survived by his brother, Paul McCormick and his wife, Kathy; and numerous nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred and James McCormick; daughter, Paula McAllister; grandsons, Mark McAllister and Leeland Jenkins; granddaughter, Leah Jenkins; and great granddaughter, Isabel Essad.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 3 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Mark Cook officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
Interment will be private at Culpeper National Cemetery.

LISA RENEE CRISCO GRIFFIN 11/03/71-10/08/21

 Lisa Renee Griffin, 49, of Concord, passed away on October 8, 2021 at Atrium Health in Concord, NC.  

  She was born on November 3, 1971 to Earl and Frances (Yost) Crisco in Concord, NC. She was a member of Harvest Community Church. Lisa had her BSN from UNCC and worked at Atrium Health Concord for many years before transitioning to case management at Rowan County Health Department. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She enjoyed the outdoors, thoroughly enjoyed planting flowers and growing her vegetable garden each year and camping.

   Lisa is survived by her loving spouse of 15 years Michael Griffin of Concord, NC, children Chloe Griffin of the home, Brittany Griffin of Enochville, NC and David (Katie) Griffin of China Grove, NC, parents Frances Crisco of Concord, NC, Earl and Carolyn Crisco of Concord, NC and sister Sherry Hartsell of Concord, NC. Grandchildren Roan and Camden, as well as many nieces and nephews.

  She was preceded in death by grandparents Carl and Onie Yost and Rachel Crisco.

  Visitation will be held Thursday, October 14, 2021, 11:00 am - 12:45 pm at Harvest Community Church in Concord, NC
  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021, 1:00 pm at the Harvest Community Church in Concord, NC, with Pastor Matt Turbedsky officiating.

  Burial will take place in the Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis.

David Warren Raynor

 David Warren Raynor, 81, passed away on July 14, 2021 in Charlottesville, VA . David was born to Russell Warren Raynor and Margaret L Collier Raynor.    

He is survived by his wife Mary Corbin Raynor; daughters Debra Shifflett and Pamela Wilcox; grandchildren Jessica, Darrick and Steven Weaver; and one great grandson. He is also survived by sisters Lucille Smith, Dorothy Taylor, Helen Shumaker and brother Albert Raynor. 

He was  preceded in death his parents, his brothers James Raynor and Richard Raynor and sisters Minnie Pearl Raynor and Ester Beahm.

Dianna Reamer Shomo Wilmoth 1804-1882

Dianna Reamer was born on 8 September, 1804 at New Market, Shenandoah County, Virginia. Her parents were Daniel Reamer (1776-1860) and Mary Polly Kauffman Reamer (1780-1860).

On Oct. 10, 1820, Dianna married Daniel Shomo (1792-1852) in New Market, Virginia, USA. This couple had 11 children: William Henry Shomo (1822-1908), Serena Shomo (1824-1880),  Rebecca Shomo (1828-1906), John Madison Shomo (1828-1889), Daniel Joseph Shomo (1830-1898), Maria Catherine Shomo (1832-1897), James Crawford Shomo (1834-1915), Amelia Elizabeth Shomo (1836-1912), Esiciah Washington Shomo (1839-1841), Jacob L. Shomo (1843-1864) and Mary Ann Shomo (1845-1925).

Daniel Shomo died in 1852. On July 25, 1858.  Dianna Reamer Shomo married John Wilmoth in Barbour County, WV.

From New Market, Shenandoah County, Virginia to Barbour County, WV, living many years in Barbour County, Dianna Reamer Shomo Wilmoth died in Barbour County, WV on 29 March 1882.

Daniel Shomo 1792-1852

Daniel Shomo died May 23, 1852. 

He was born on 25 Nov. 1792 at Berks County in Pennsylvania. 

His parents were Anthony Shomo (1756-1812) and Elizabeth Rebecca Obold Shomo (1767-1842).  He was married to Dianna Reamer Shomo (Wilmoth). Their children were Elone William H Shomo, Celena Shomo Marple, John Madison Shomo, James Crawford Shomo, Daniel Joseph Shomo, Amelia Elizabeth Shomo Corley, and Mary A Shomo Stalnaker.

Daniel Shomo served in the U.S. War of 1812. He was 20 years old at the time. Name: Daniel Shomo: Company: 4 REGIMENT VIRGINIA MILITIA. Rank - Induction: PRIVATE Rank - Discharge: PRIVATE Roll Box: 188 Roll Exct: 602 

Burial is at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Barbour Co, West Virginia.  

Catherine Shomo Gaines 1849-1929

Mrs. Catherine Gaines

Widow of John W. Gaines died at her daughter Mrs. Harry Zeigler at 1345 Fifth Ave East Juniata Last Evening. 
She was born in 1849 to Elone William H. Shomo and Frances J. Louderback Shomo in Page County VA.  
She has been ill for several years and was bedfast the last month.  For the past twenty five years she  lived in Altoona, PA. Surviving are four sons and Four daughters John W. Gaines ,Mrs. George W. Miller, Mrs. William Miner, Mrs. Harry Zeigler, Thomas M. Gaines, Charles E. Gaines, and Robert L. Gaines All of this city.
Mrs. W.W.R. Beahm of Oak Park Va. Three sisters Lafayette Breedlove of Va. Mrs. Ellen Price of Ebensburg, and Mrs. Charles Alger of Page County Va. 
Mrs. Gaines was a member of the Broad Ave. Methodist Church.
