Retta Nicholson Thorpe Simpson, 84, of Front Royal, died Monday, March 25, 2013 in the Warren Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 29, at 2:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Simpson was born April 15, 1928 in Nethers Mill, Virginia, daughter of late Andrew P. and Lou B. Corbin Nicholson. She retired from Aileen, Inc.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John H. Thorpe.
Surviving are her husband, William "Bill" Simpson; two daughters, Betty A. Jenkins of Front Royal and Kathy L. Drain of Front Royal; two sons, David H. Thorpe of Front Royal and Johnie L. Thorpe of Stanley; one brother, James Nicholson of Manassas; one sister, Mary Frances Swithenbank of Linden; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by six sisters, Alice J. Perdue, Louise Dressler, Eunice Taylor, Mildred Nicholson, Reva Nicholson and Ethal Nicholson; and two brothers, Andrew Warren Nicholson and Ernest Edward Nicholson.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jason Thorpe, Joshua Jenkins, Amos Jenkins, Denver Drain and Christopher Drain.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
