Carroll Henry Shotwell 1939-2013

 Carroll Henry Shotwell, 74, of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at his home. He was born December 4, 1939 in Brookneal, Va., a son of the late John Henry Shotwell and Ada Puckett Shotwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, J. Ralph Shotwell; and a sister-in-law, Sue Shotwell. Mr. Shotwell graduated from the University of Richmond in 1962. He received his Master's of Education from UVA in 1970. A lifelong educator, he served as a teacher, coach, principal and central office administrator in several school divisions throughout Virginia. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Beverly Joy Shotwell; his children, Angela Sergent and husband, Randy, of Ellicott City, Md., David C. Shotwell of Washington, D.C., R. Brian Shotwell of Reston, Va.; three grandchildren, Julia, Olivia and J.C. Sergent; brothers, Malcolm G. Shotwell and wife, LaVerne, of Springfield, Illinois, Donald P. Shotwell of Brookneal, Va.; sister-in-law, Virginia Shotwell. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Manly Memorial Baptist Church, with the Dr. J. Michael Wilkins and Dr. Malcolm G. Shotwell officiating. Burial will be private. Family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the memory of Carroll to Manly Memorial Baptist Church, 202 South Main St., Lexington, Va. 24450, or to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, Va. 24450. Robert Lee Conley 1930-2014

Robert Lee Conley, Jr., 83, of Charlottesville, passed away on Saturday morning, March 29, 2014 after a period of declining health.
He was born to Robert Lee Conley and Bertha Morris Conley on May 12, 1930 in Rapidan, VA.
Robert is survived by his wife, Joanne D. Conley; two sons, Bob and his wife Edie, and Barry; two granddaughters, Mary Beth and Meagan Conley; two sisters, Evelyn Conley and Gracie Dulaney; and several nieces and nephews.
After high school, Robert served with the U. S. Army's 45th Infantry Division during the Korean War. He was awarded a Purple Heart.
Robert was employed by Anderson Brothers Bookstore on The Corner for the better part of three decades. He retired in 1986. He was a long standing member of the The First Presbyterian Church (Park Street). He was an avid (and sometimes frustrated) UVA sports fan and was fortunate to see the Hoos win the ACC basketball championship game recently.
Robert's greatest love in life was his family.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014 at The First Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Disease Foundation or to the Phillips Cancer Center at the Martha Jefferson Hospital.

Haley Dawn Collier 2/7/2001 - 7/15/2014

Haley Dawn Collier Haley Dawn Collier, 13, of Brightwood, went with the angels to be with Jesus on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, in Charlottesville. She was born on February 7, 2001, in Charlottesville. A rising 8th grader at Wetsel Middle School in Madison, Haley was our beautiful, loving, caring, sweet Angel. Her heart and soul was devoted to playing with her sisters on the field for "Blue Ridge Heat" Softball. Haley loved riding her horse Stitch, attending barrel races, hunting with her Daddy and enjoying her young life outdoors. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Warren E. Morgan; maternal great-grandfather, Reed "Buck" N. Fincham; maternal great-grandfather, W.C. Morgan Jr.; and paternal great-grandparents, Berman and Blanch Collier, and Joe and Robbie Jeffries. She is survived by her parents, Scott Hudson Collier and Nita Dawn Collier; her two brothers, Ryan Hudson Collier and Hunter Jacob Collier; maternal grandmother, Deborah Morgan; paternal grandparents, Amos Hudson Collier Jr. and Nancy J. Collier; maternal great-grandmother, Doris D. Fincham; maternal great-grandmother, Elsie Morgan; uncles, Thomas Morgan, wife, Kate, and their, daughter, Carlee, and Troy Collier, wife, Kelly, and their children, Erica, Austin and Dallas. Her Pops, Warren Lam and wife, Nikki; and "Uncles," Jamie Dawson and John Mulliniks. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison, conducted by Pastor Adam Meisberger with interment at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Reva. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 21, 2014, from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Marshall Eugene Nicholson 8/30/92 - 9/15/13

Marshall Eugene Nicholson, 21, of Gordonsville, died on Sunday, September 15, 2013. Born on August 30, 1992, in Charlottesville, he was a son of Cary Marshall Nicholson and Carolyn Nuckols Nicholson of Gordonsville. Marshall attended Open Door Christian School and Louisa County High School where he graduated in 2010. After high school he graduated from Advanced Technology Institute for automotive mechanics in Virginia Beach, and was currently employed by Jim Price in Charlottesville. He worked at Shenandoah Crossings Resort while in high school and was part of the Crossroads Community Church family. Marshall loved working on his car and hanging out with friends. He and his brother enjoyed racing at Summerduck Speedway and had recently attended the Richmond NASCAR Race together. In addition to his parents he is survived by one sister, Courtney Williamson Adams and her husband, Roby, of Lynchburg; one brother, Jesse Nicholson of Gordonsville; paternal grandmother, Nancy B. Ryder of Troy; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 20, 2013, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville, with interment to follow in Rhoadesville Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Edgar Greene will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013, at the funeral home.

Roy Shonnon Collier - 12/12/13

Roy Shannon Collier, 51, passed away on Thursday (Dec. 12, 2013.)
He was a member of the Andover church he carried those Christian values throughout his life. He coached little league and umpired junior league sports. He was a loving father, brother, husband, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Jackie Collier, and his sister Mary Kate Collier.
He is survived by his wife Debra Collier, Son Michael-Shannon Collier, daughter- in- law Amelia Collier, his Aunt ;Willie Mae Turner, two brothers; Rusty Collier, and John Collier, Nephews Tommy Ray( wife) Christa Collier, Jerry (wife) Misty Collier, Great Nephew Jordan Collier, several other close relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted on Friday (Dec. 20, 2013) at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens at 2:00 p.m. with the Pastor Phillip Bates officiating.
Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Holding Funeral Home at 1:30 to go in procession to Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.

Bobby Glen "The King" Raynor 5/19/44 -11/28/13

Bobby Glen “The King” Raynor, 69, of 3260 Virginia Lane, Danville, VA died suddenly on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Raynor was born in the Vernon Hill community of Pittsylvania County on May 19, 1944, a son of the late Clarence P. Raynor and the late Rosa Hardy Raynor. He spent all of his life in the Pittsylvania County and Danville areas where he founded Town and Country Motors in 1968 and operated the business for forty two years until his retirement. He was a long time member and also a board member of the Virginia Independent Automobile Dealers Association where he was the District 5 President in 1998. He was also a former member of the Tuscarora Country Club, the Morning Lion’s Club and the German Club. He was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church but was currently attending St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. On March 13, 1998 Mr. Raynor married Rita Cook-Raynor who survives of the residence. In addition to his wife, Mr. Raynor is survived by one son, Stephen Lee Cook, Jr. and wife Christy of Danville, VA; one sister, Ruth R. Millner (Bea) of Vernon Hill, VA; two brothers, Donald Raynor (Sandie) of Vernon Hill, VA and Dewey Raynor (Lucille) of South Boston, VA; one sister in law, Shirley Raynor; and one brother in law, Bobby Dawson. He is also survived by one special grandson, Jack Lee Cook, to which he was known as “Bibi”; a special niece, Kim R. Shelton (Steve); a special nephew Randy Raynor (Angela); and nieces and nephews, Danny Raynor, Steve Raynor, Debby Carter, Beverly Sparks, Tony Millner, and Donna Lynn Brumfield. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Lewis P. Raynor and Charlie P. Raynor; and one sister, Lena Mae Dawson. Funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with the Reverend Tilden Bridges, the Rev. Dr. Paul Phillips and the Reverend Carl Burger officiating. Interment will follow the service in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday night from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the church and at other times the family will be at the residence, 3260 Virginia Lane, Danville VA 24540. Gladys Ford Beahm 4/11/28 - 1/30/14

Gladys Ford Beahm, 85, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at her residence. Born on April 11, 1928, in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late William Harrison Ford and Mozelia Embrey Ford and wife of the late John Henry Beahm. Mrs. Beahm retired from Jefferson National Bank in Madison after 43 years and serving as a manager and she attended Beth Car Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Troy Talbot Beahm and wife, Kim, of Orange; brother, Charles Embrey Ford and wife, Martha, of Aroda; and granddaughter, Amanda Beahm Rosenblatt and husband, Jessie of Charlottesville. A funeral service will be held 12 noon Monday, February 3, 2014, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison, conducted by Pastor Josh Shifflett with interment in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Oak Park. The family will receive friends one hour before the service from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014, at the funeral home. Dr. Elisabeth Kirstin Beahm - 3/07/13

Dr. Elisabeth Kirstin Beahm March 7, 2013, Houston, Texas, after a long illness. Dr. Beahm was Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas, M D Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Beahm made important contributions in breast and nasal reconstructive surgery and was a recognized world leader in her specialty. For the past 18 years, she tirelessly donated her skills and services for the benefit of crippled children in Puerto Rico. Admired and respected by colleagues, she was a beloved teacher and mentor to numerous medical students, residents in training, and fellows in reconstructive microsurgery. The consummate academic role model who "danced it backwards and in heels..." She is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert L. Walton, of Chicago, Illinois, and by her father, Mr. William J. Beahm, of Sacramento, California.

Lisa Whitley Cox 03/23/65 - 02/13/14

Lisa Whitley Cox, age 48, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at CMC-Main, Charlotte, NC. Death was unexpected from complications of heart surgery and declining health for the previous six months. She was born March 23, 1965 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of Robert James Whitley and Rachel Marie Donahue Whitley of Kannapolis, NC. Lisa was a 1983 graduate of A.L. Brown High School. Lisa was employed as an accounts receivable clerk with Europa Sports, Charlotte, NC for five years. In earlier years she was active in the Church of God denomination where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Her family fondly remembers her love for work, cake decorating, church activities, and life in general. Her love of God was a main focus in her life. The funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Kannapolis Church of God, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Sam Crisp and Rev. Dr. Greg Sloop. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. at the church prior to the service. The family will be at the home of her parents the remainder of the time.
